Physicochemical Property:

Sodium alginate is a byproduct of iodine and mannitol extracted from kelp or Sargasso, whose molecules are connected by β -D-mannuronic (M) and α -L-L-guluronic (G) by (14) keys. It is a natural polysaccharide, with the stability, solubility, viscosity and safety required for pharmaceutical excipients. Sodium alginate has been widely used in the food industry and medicine.

Product Features:

Sodium alginate is a byproduct of iodine and mannitol extracted from kelp or sargasso of brown algae. Its molecules are connected by the keys β -D- β -D-mannuronic (M) and α -L-guluronic (G). The aqueous solution of sodium alginate has a high viscosity, and has been used as a food thickener, stabilizer, emulsifier, etc. Sodium alginate is a non-toxic food, was included in the US Pharmacopoeia as early as 1938.

Product Process:
Sodium alginate process is as follows: dry or wet seaweed (algae) by crushing, washing, strong alkali water extraction, clarify thick alginate solution, by calcium chloride precipitation to colored calcium alginate, after decoloring, taste with acid treatment, remove soluble impurities to alginate precipitation, and sodium carbonate action to sodium alginate, and then by drying, crushing, screening the sodium alginate powder.

Applications:

1. Application in food

Sodium alginate is used to replace starch and gelatin as an ice cream stabilizer, which can control the formation of ice crystals, improve the taste of ice cream, and also stabilize mixed drinks such as sugar water sorbet, ice sherbet and frozen milk.

2. Application in pharmaceutical preparations

Sodium alginate is used as an adhesive for tablets, and alginate is also used as a disintegration agent for quick-release tablets. Sodium alginate is also used in the production of suspensions, gels, and concentrated emulsions based on fat and oils.

3. Application of printing and textile industry

Sodium alginate is used as a reactive dye color paste in the printing and dyeing industry, which is better than grain starch and other slurry. The printed textile product has bright patterns, clear lines, high color quantity, uniform color, and good permeability and plasticity. Seaweed glue is the best paste in modern printing and dyeing industry, has been widely used in cotton, wool, silk, nylon and other fabrics printing, especially suitable for the preparation of the dye printing pulp.

Dosage and storage:

Sodium alginate is a high-grade stabilizer of cold drinks such as ice cream, adding the amount is low, generally 1-3%, foreign added the amount is 5-10%. The usage in other areas should be determined according to the specific use.
